WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE —The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force ranked third in a nationwide poll for best free museum in the United States.

The museum, which opened a more than $40 million expansion in June, landed in the No. 3 spot on the USA Today contest, according to the website.

“To be a part of the top three, when you look at the list of all those great facilities in there, it’s a great honor,” museum director John “Jack” Hudson said in an interview Tuesday. The Air Force museum was one of 20 nominated in the contest.
