DAYTON, Ohio—The announcement that Tom Hanks will produce an HBO miniseries about the Wright brothers has sparked widespread interest by the entertainment and news media.
A flurry of local news reports have followed Deadline.com‘s announcement that Hanks’ production company Playtone would produce the series based on the forthcoming book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian David McCullough. His publisher, Simon & Schuster has scheduled The Wright Brothers for release on May 5.
WDTN-TV Channel 2 Anchor Mark Allan interviewed NAHA Communications Director Tim Gaffney live on its 5 o’clock news and showed clips of the Wright “B” Flyer, a one-of-a-kind lookalike of the Wright brothers’ first production airplane. The report included details about NAHA’s efforts to preserve the Wright brothers’ factory and Wright “B” Flyer’s plans to build a new plane in that factory.
