Vectren Dayton Air Show adds C-17

In NAHA News, Uncategorized /

The Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger has added the massive Air Force C-17 Globemaster III to its list of static display aircraft for the annual air show scheduled for June 20-21 at the Dayton International Airport.

The airplane won’t have to travel far. With Air Force approval, the 445th Airlift Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will dispatch one of its C-17s  to the air show, where visitors will be able to tour the giant airplane and talk to crew  members.

The four-engine Boeing jet is the mainstay of America’s heavy hauling cargo fleet. With a gross takeoff weight of 585,000 pounds, a massive cargo bay with a 12-foot cross section, the ability to operate from short airstrips and aerial refueling, the C-17 performs a global strategic airlift mission. The versatile giant can deliver an Abrams battle tank to a forward airfield or evacuate medical patients.

Headlining this year’s air show are the U. S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Joining them will be the U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet tactical demonstration team and U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team. The Breitling Jet Team from Dijon, France will make its first appearance in Dayton as part of its first North American Tour, adding a second jet team to the lineup.

The Jack Link’s Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet WACO biplane will present a new twist to Dayton’s aviation heritage: the original WACO airplanes were manufactured in Troy, and their history is preserved at historic WACO Field. The Wright “B” Flyer, a one-of-a-kind lookalike of the Wright brothers first production airplane, will make flybys each day.

The United States Air and Trade Show Inc.—the nonprofit that produces the air show—WACO and Wright “B” Flyer are NAHA partners.

Other premier performers include  Matt Younkin’s twin-engine Beech 18 aerobatics, air show legend Sean D. Tucker and the Shockwave Jet Truck.

General admission tickets are on sale at discount prices in all Dayton-area Kroger stores. Tickets are also available for the Blue Sky Chalets and Pavilion seating. These reserved areas, along with the bargain Family Four Packs, are popular with show fans. Visit www.daytonairshow.com for more information.
